The 2019 and 2020 Vermont Cohorts represent 39 schools and 20 supervisory unions. In the fall semester, the 2019 cohort completed Teaching, Learning and Leading: Effective Mathematics Instruction for All Students, in which they examined topics such as mathematics standards and learning progressions, research related to the teaching and learning of mathematics for all students, the importance of visual models in instruction and ways to build new learning on students’ prior knowledge. The cohort is presently enrolled in Geometry. The 2020 VMI Cohort completed Math as a Second Language (MSL) in the fall semester. MSL focused on the relationships among arithmetic, algebra, and geometry through rich problem solving and collaborative experiences. The 2020 cohort is presently enrolled in Functions and Algebra.
In addition, all participants are engaged in VMI’s Teaching/Learning strand which involves, readings, working with a VMI mentor, and “intentionally and systematically” working on their instruction through Year 1 and Year 2 Teaching/Learning projects. We are proud of our participants’ dedication to their students, schools, and districts.
The VMI is now accepting applications for the 2021 Vermont Cohort. See the post below for more details.
